The boy from Barbados as he known around the karting world, Zane Maloney has started to cause a lot of excitement around the Caribbean. No island in the region has ever had an F1 driver, driving under their flag. Not only is Zane driving under the Barbados flag but he is born and bred in Bridgetown. Coming from a line of Barbadian racing stars, he is actually a third-generation Barbados racing champion. Zane's grandfather, uncles, and Dad were all regional karting champions in Barbados. Zane too, as by age 10 he was a five-time Barbados Karting Association Champion.
On the international stage, Zane became the the British F4 Champion in 2019 and the runner up of the 2022 FIA F3 Championships. Now racing in the F2 Championships, Zane in his rookie year is 9/22 in the F2 standings. Racing for the Red Bull Junior Team, Zane is also the reserve driver for two F1 teams, Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri. Although it may be unlikely that Zane gets the call up this season, he has said he looks to possibly have one of the driver's spots for AlphaTauri Racing next season. Whether it be next season or not, Zane is definitely on track to reach his ultimate goal of racing in F1, making not only Barbados but the whole of the Caribbean proud.

Whether you follow motorsports or not, it is important to take note of Zane Maloney. To get into F1 is extremely difficult as there are only 20 spots, so for a young West Indian to be well on track to do this, is incredible. As West Indians, it's important to ramp up the support for Zane who is on course to make history and hopefully become an icon to the Caribbean and F1.
